TENCEL™ for the win... {and the environment.}
TENCEL™, also known as lyocell, is a type of fabric that is derived from wood pulp, most commonly sourced from eucalyptus trees. It falls under the category of cellulosic fibers, which are fibers made from natural materials.
Sustainability: TENCEL™ is made from renewable materials, such as wood pulp, which is derived from sustainably managed forests. Eucalyptus trees used for TENCEL production require significantly less water and land compared to conventional cotton.
Low Environmental Impact: The closed-loop manufacturing process used to produce TENCEL™ minimizes the use of harmful chemicals and solvents. This process involves dissolving wood pulp in a non-toxic solvent and then extruding it through fine holes to create fibers. The solvent is then recycled and used again in the production process, reducing waste and pollution.
Biodegradability: TENCEL™ is biodegradable, meaning that it can naturally decompose without causing long-term harm to the environment. This is in contrast to synthetic fibers like polyester, which can take a long time to break down and contribute to microplastic pollution.
Softness and Comfort: TENCEL™ is known for its soft and smooth texture, making it comfortable to wear against the skin. It has a natural sheen and drapes well, giving garments an elegant appearance.
Breathability: TENCEL™ has excellent moisture-wicking properties, allowing it to absorb moisture and release it into the air, keeping the wearer cool and dry. This breathability makes it suitable for a variety of clothing items, particularly those worn in warm or humid climates.
Hypoallergenic: TENCEL™ is naturally resistant to bacteria, which can be beneficial for people with sensitive skin or allergies. Its smooth fibers reduce the likelihood of irritation.
Versatility: TENCEL™ can be used to produce a wide range of textiles, including clothing, bedding, towels, and more. Its versatility makes it a popular choice for various applications.
Overall, TENCEL™ fabric is considered an eco-friendly alternative to conventional textiles due to its sustainable sourcing, closed-loop production process, and biodegradability. Its benefits extend to both the environment and the people who wear and use products made from this material.
Once I tried the size one, I just knew I had to have size two!! Who could live without this?!
